Exercise and older people.

The article is a systematic review that examines the effects of chronic physical activity on cognitive outcomes in individuals with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) or Alzheimer’s Disease (AD).

The authors included studies using exercise, physical activity, or fitness training as an experimental intervention and measured cytokines or other inflammatory or neuroinflammatory immune markers in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), brain tissue, etc. The researchers assessed the effect of physical activity, stratified based on its type, frequency, volume, intensity, and duration. The review included animal and human studies, and the results showed that chronic physical activity reduced pro-inflammatory markers in both animal and human models. The authors concluded that chronic physical activity positively affected the brain tissue of animals and humans with MCI or AD.

However, more studies are needed to understand the correlation between cytokine levels and cognitive functions.
